Start Talking. Stop HIV.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s campaign, Start Talking. Stop HIV., is a national effort created by and for gay and bisexual men. This multifaceted social marketing campaign, for which FHI 360 provides support, features gay and bisexual men from across the United States. It is designed to reach and influence men in their everyday lives with messages that inspire practical, lifesaving conversations and promote open communication between sexual partners for the purpose of preventing HIV.

The project provides practical tools and tips for discussing topics such as:

  • HIV testing and status
  • Condoms and ways to engage in lower-risk sexual behaviors
  • Medicines that prevent and treat HIV, including the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis, post-exposure prophylaxis and antiretroviral therapy

Additionally, the project includes:

  • A website featuring practical tips and accurate information to start and inform the conversation
  • Promotional materials, such as posters, brochures and postcards, are available for distribution by community-based organizations and health departments in cities across the United States; digital banners are also available for download and placement on any website
  • A Facebook page with campaign information and a place for men to join the conversation online
  • Campaign videos and print advertisements for:
    • National promotions
    • Local promotions
    • Pride events
    • Digital engagement
